What is a DUANJU?

A Duanju, also known as mobile fiction, is a vertical mini-series designed for smartphones. Fast-paced and dynamic, each episode lasts between 1 and 3 minutes. Born in China, the format is gaining international popularity and is inspiring a new generation of creators.

 

Terminology

​​

The word Duanju comes from the Chinese 短剧 (duǎnjù), literally meaning "short drama." Depending on the country and platform, this format is also referred to by other names: micro-série, série courte verticale, fiction verticale, mini-série mobile in French; short drama, vertical short drama, micro drama, short-form series, mobile-first series in English; and 微短剧 (wēi duǎnjù) or 竖屏短剧 (shùpíng duǎnjù) in Chinese.
